This was definitely an investment. I got the custom flats fade 7/8 for redfishing. Paired it with the Scott Sector. I absolutely love this reel. It is absolutely beautiful and so extremely smooth. A lot say that it is heavy. This is true. It is not the lightest but I love the weight. Particularly with shooting heavy weight forward line, the weight definitely balances out the outfit so it doesn't feel so tip heavy.
The only two cons are it will take a little to customize and ship (roughly 6 months for me from abel), which is fine. The other con is the backing yardage. I think just roughly under 200, but still should be enough for most 8 wt fish.

I have several SDS reels, but this is my first 7/8. Everything is as expected from Abel. The fit, finish, and performance. Something to consider... these 7/8's are not the lightest sealed drag reels in this size category if that's important to you. Something else to note is you'll have less backing at your disposal as the capacity for fly line and backing is less than expected. You'll be under 200 yards of backing or less with a line like Airflow Tropical punch, which still should be plenty. If not enough, worse case scenario you'll have the best sealed drag in the business or a good fish tale.
