The New Abel TR Fly Reel is a lightweight masterpiece, with a striking modern design and feel. This ultralight click and pawl reel offers an integrated precision-balanced clicker on the spool, eliminatating the need for a counterweight and retaining an iconic click-pawl sound. The pronounced palming rim is deliberately shaped to manually control drag pressure in various fishing conditions. The TR also features a large-arbor spool engineered to reduce line memory and increase retrieval rate. Machined stainless steel accents on both the frame and spool add to the beautiful, clean look of this Abel reel.

I purchased the 4/5 Abel TR for use with a glass 4wt and a medium fast 5wt rod. It seemed the reel might be a better match for one of them and just an ok match for the other, but surprisingly it feels perfect on both! The TR provides enough power to apply pressure on a bigger trout running downstream, yet isn’t overkill on the 10-12 inchers. And, oh, that sound!!

I purchased this to put on a Sage TLL 486-4. It balances the rod out beautifully. I going and outgoing sound is awesome. I haven’t been able to fish it yet but I’m sure it will be perfect. Thanks ReelFlyRod for another excellent purchase experience!

I use this reel with my custom Payne 98 7’ 4wt. I built this rod from a blank tapered with the Payne 98 style. I added my own mods and turned my own cork grip; it’s definitely a special rod for me. So I needed a special reel that will sing when that large trout runs, the Abel TR has a beautiful voice and it’s pitch tells me how big the fish is. A perfect treasured reel matching up with a treasured rod.

During the recent Ross/Abel sale I was tempted to take a leap and buy this reel after eyeballing it for quite some time. It's a beautiful little reel and I'm really looking forward to fishing it with some of my 4wt rods this year.
