Granted these Fishpond retractors cost more but they are in a total different class compared to cheaply made retractors. A solid all aluminum case and carabiner attach point. The aluminum case is also held together by four small Allen head screws. I've never opened up the retractor but the use of Allen screws indicates to me that if you did need to repair it, that it would be possible. I feel confident attaching my Simms Pro nippers on this retractor.

I picked this up at a thankfully discounted price in hopes that it would be far superior to the other retractors I used in the past. It is a little bulkier, but seems like it should far outlast the other products available.

While these are expensive, you get what you pay for to protect the gadget on the other end. For me, its my Abel Nippers...

If you want a secure, strong and good looking retractor, this is it. Yeah, a bit pricey for what it is, but once you have one you'll understand why...and likely buy at least one more.
