Nautilus X-Series XL Fly Reels feature a completely open frame that is extremely light, boasts superior rigidity, a super smooth powerhouse drag, and amazingly fast line pick up. The cutting edge X-Series design has strong beams that extend from the center to a wide line guard. These angles allow for rear spool rim protection where the reel typically contacts the ground when the rod is leaned up against a wall or a car. The totally new SCF-X drag is a sealed Teflon® and carbon fiber disc drag system that is impervious to the elements, self lubricating, and maintenance free. The drag is adjusted with a generous drag knob that offers superior gripping surface for wet and cold fingers. The highly ventilated arch design, coupled with the dual palming rim increases spool strength by 35%. The sides of the frame leave the spool totally exposed, and the back spool rim has a generous 1/8″ secondary palming rim for added fish control. This heavy- duty secondary palming rim has the strength to withstand everyday wear and tear. The spool is a new spin on Nautilus' ultra light, award winning Giga arbor design. It is lighter than any spool of a similar size we have ever made.
Available in three frame sizes: XS – 3.25” Diameter, 3.8 oz, XM – 3.5” diameter, 4.1 oz, and a 4” frame XL that will accept the standard XL Giga arbor spool for a 6/7 weight and the XL MAX Giga arbor spool that will fit an 8/9 weight line. At a mere 4.7 ounces the XL and XL MAX will handle your larger fresh water species and light salt water needs perfectly.

I own an older Nautilus 5wt and was looking at getting one for my 6wt. I went with the XL and could not be happier. The drag on nautilus reels is second to none and the construction of these reels will stand up to anything. I highly recommend any Nautilus reel.

The nautilus x-series reels are well built, and beautiful. I love the form, fit and function of the reels. The drag is fantastic. Highly recommend any nautilus but especially the x-series.

I have the X Series in xs and xm and just added the xl for my 6wt rod. The drag system is the best I have seen, especially for a light weight reel. Great reel to complement a light fly rod.

I bought this reel to pair with my 5wt Loomis Asquith. I found it to be too big and no balance. I changed out to XM size and what an improvement for casting and balance. I plan to buy another Nautilus XM reel for trout and will use my XL for steelhead on my 7wt .

The Nautilus X is well recognized as an exceptional reel. I got the reel to pair with my Payload for trout streamer fishing as well as hunting redfish in the salt flats. The excellent sealed drag system will haul in the hogs and keep the sand and salt out. Oh, and it's red.

Finally had a chance to take my new Nautilus X reel on the water. I bought this reel to swing flys and single hand spey. It performed flawlessly. I was able to hook up on a few rainbows measuring 16 to 18 inches and the reel performed like a fine tuned machine. The drag on the system was so smooth. These fish made several runs on me before I was able to net them. I am convinced the Nautilus reel made a difference in helping tucker them out. Also did I mention the reel looks fantastic. I purchased it in black. Will definitely buy another one in the future.

Amazing reel. This is my first nautilus product and I love it. The fit and finish is excellent and the reel is butter smooth! Amazingly light so it can be used for almost any setup because it’s not just light but powerful!
