Orvis Recon fly rods are each hand crafted in the USA with a completely new ferrule design, a matte olive blank with charcoal and spring green accents, and an anodized type iii reel seat with wood insert. Been fishing with an Orvis recon euro rod for about 6 months now, received it as a gift and wow has it impressed.
Excellent feel for strike detection, amazing tippet protection even on big Bow river lunkers.
Love the fit and finish and the swing weight pairs nicely with my 5wt nautilus reel.
Overall I 100% recommended.

I purchased this rod on sale, (last years model) and got a great price. This Orvis Recon came highly recommended at this price point and I am not disapointed with my purchase. Great fit, function and quality and it works great for Chironomid fishing with a strike indicator when I want to use a lighter weight set up.

Great rod, you can feel everything your nymph touches on the creek bed. Tip is delicate while butt is sturdy to fight even the biggest of creek monsters. Rod is well balanced with a hydros reel. When not euro nymphing, the rod slings any WF fly line with ease and precision. Only (minor) issue is with the rod shop - any piece has to be built to the rod (no pieces stockpiled), meaning you might have to wait 4-6 weeks before you're back on the water.

I decided to jump in and purchase 10 ft 3 weight after listening to Orvis FB live with Tom Rosenbauer and George Daniel. Tom said George had a hand in designing the rod. Humble guy George just said he tested it. George said it has a very sensitive tip with a 5 wt but to handle bigger fish. Contrary to some write-ups this is good for small rivers as well as spring creeks. I christened catching 4 rainbows in a 1/2 day outing an additional 5 or 6 got away. Nice rod!

I just opened my new Orvis Recon 10' 3 wt. fly rod. The rod is beautiful, it is more than I ever thought it could be even after reading other reviews and information. I cannot wait to get on the water and start my new euro nymping with this rod. I can now see what they talk about is a euro nymph rod. I have also ordered and received to Echo reels and the service from Reel Fly Rod has been nothing but outstanding. Thank you look forward. To doing more business in the future.

This is my 2nd dedicated Euro Nymphing rod. After a lot of research, I chose the Orvis Recon because it is so lightweight and I was having problems with fatigue using a heavier rod. I have paired it with a Redington Rise III 5-6 and it balances perfectly. The rod looks great and has an excellent fit and finish. In fact, I got my hands on this rod at an Orvis store shortly after I purchased my previous rod and immediately had buyers remorse, wishing I had purchased the Recon instead. I’m looking forward to many long days on the water with this stick.

This rod is beautiful, well balanced, and extremely light. Paired with the correct reel (I have a Battenkill disc II on it), it balances perfectly at the stereotypical thumb position on the cork. It's lightness makes it an excellent tightline-style nymphing rod as it is effortless to hold high for several hours on the water (and I have a bad shoulder).

I initially bought a Moonshine 10.5 ft nymphing rod as an introduction to Czech nymphing. That rod was adequate but too was tip heavy, requiring a heavy reel to balance it out. I ended up getting too tired by the end of the day. Since I knew I would by sticking with euronymphing, I decided on the Orvis Recon. It balances well with a Lamson Liquid 2 reel. It’s very light, but has a lot of backbone. Euronymphing has been a game changer for me. I’m landing more fish compared to the traditional fly fishing.
