NEW! RIO ELITE GOLD FLY LINE (WF4 - WF8)
The Elite RIO Gold has a taper design that gives incredible loop stability at distance and a front taper that delivers perfect presentation of flies between sizes #2 and #22. With a long head and back taper this line is an excellent all around fly line on rivers and lakes when long casts and complete line control are required. This line is built with RIO's low-stretch ConnectCore Plus, resulting in exceptionally smooth, durable fly lines, with the added benefits of incredible levels of sensitivity when casting and fishing, and providing enhanced detection of takes, faster hook sets, and far greater control when playing a fish. In addition, this line is built with SlickCast, RIO's proprietary coating technology, creating the slickest, most durable fly lines on the market. Lab tests show that lines built with SlickCast have the least amount of friction ever measured in a fly line.
FEATURES:
- Long head for ultimate casting control

This line was a pleasure to use, so smooth and almost zero memory. Mine developed cracks sooner than I would like, but I am pretty tough on lines.

I like this line and the slick coating really does improve distance. It does have a little more stretch than the InTouch lines that were discontinued, but it is less stretch than their regular fly lines. However, when making longer casts past 60 ft., it is tricky in avoiding tailing loops with the faster and stiffer rods, so you really have to slow down your cast and make sure not to use a leader that is too short (this is the Gold taper). It really casts better with moderate action fly rods. So far, I really do see a big improvement over their older lines, so I am planning to try some of the other tapers. The other reason for not a 5 star rating is the price. The competition has already been using the same technology for several years (slickness coating that is continually exposed as the line wears), so I do not know why the extra cost. If I didn’t have a coupon, I probably would have gone with the regular grade line. Also, the biofouling during summer months is still an issue when fishing in warmwater bodies with turbidity and algae sticking to the coating and reducing slickness – but this is same problem with every other line.
