ESN Fly Reels are packed with a suite of specialty features with the
Euro-Nymph angler in mind and is fine tuned to the nuances of each

unique balance system allows anglers to assemble and fine tune a set of
weights, so the ESN reel can perfectly balance any Euro Nymphing (or
standard) rod. Add in a full frame that prevents fine leaders and lines

Adjustable
Weights for Balancing: The ESN reel comes in one size, containing 3
interchangeable accessory weights (1/2oz, 1oz, and 1 1/2oz), and is
appropriate for dialing in any Euro Nymphing setup on the market.

Sage makes a great reel for euro nymphing rods. This beautiful ESN reel (in Chipotle) is awesome. One you balance out the weight (provided) to your rod it results in effortless, tireless casting. The reel is also much narrower than my normal 5 and 6 wt reels. It is machined and the full cage is very nice especially with the micro leaders used. I will definitely buy again.

The drag and feel of this reel is like a Swiss watch. It has a really satisfying pur and smoothness to it. The counterweights are great and make this a superb euro nymph fishing reel. Sage was first to come out with counter weights, ever since other companies have followed.

Boy do I love this reel. Paired with a 3wt 10' Sage ESN rod, it's a bit unnecessary, however. That rod is very light, especially at the tip. Didn't need any of the weights to balance my rod. But it looks great and the perforce is top notch.

By adjusting the weight of Reel, I can fish in a well-balanced and tireless manner. I recommend this Reel to people because it is very easy to handle and for fishing.

Been reading reviews on this reel for euro nymph rods and tight lining. I finally bit the bullet and decided to spend the money and purchase this reel for my 10' 6'' helios 3 wt. It matches perfect for this rod. Also with the adjustable weights I was able to balance out the rod perfectly with this reel. The Sage ESN was designed as a perfect reel for euro nymphing/high sticking. I am glad I spent the money to invest in this well designed piece of machinery.

I've used the ESN most of this season and it has solved the annoying problem of thin mono line getting caught between the spool and frame. I have been able to use running line down to 6lb without issue. Drag is smooth and easy to adjust. I have used it on both 10', 3wt and 10'-9", 3wt without adding or changing the weight as I don't find I need it. The one issue I have had is drag clicker has failed but it hasn't affected the operation and I prefer a silent reel anyway.
