The New Orvis Clearwater 4-Weight 7'6" Fly Rod is the perfect choice for fishing small streams holding big trout. The shorter length offers precise control on delicate short casts in tight quarters and yet the 4-weight is strong enough to wrestle those big fish out of some tough spots. The flex and taper are specifically designed for small streams and soft presentations and you won't find a better rod for this purpose at a better price.
The new Clearwater Rod Series is not just a cosmetic facelift, but a complete overhaul from the ground up by our Vermont rod designers. Everything has changed except the value. It's still the best fly rod you can buy for the money, but with a significant upgrade in performance and looks in a comprehensive series that covers every angler from small stream addicts to Skagit slinging two-handers. Each rod was designed with a purpose-built profile and action to handle the kind of fishing the rod model would be traditionally used for, from medium-action small stream rods to medium-fast freshwater rods and fast-action big game rods.

A perfect creek rod. Casts up to mid-sized dry or nymph rigs well. I use a 4wt SA GPX for all-around and a 4wt Wulff Triangle Taper if I know I will only need smaller dries. The only time I'm not using this rod on smaller water is when the euro-nymph rig comes out.

This 4wt shorter flyrod is just right for smaller streams in Driftless Area of Wisconsin as well as bushy braided sections of Alaska water where grayling are found. I am not as interested in delicate presentations with this rod and will fish it with Rio Creek 4 wt line or even a 5 wt Rio Gold to cast dry dropper rig or two nymph setup. Action feels closer to medium than medium fast. I'm very pleased with this rod,

I purchased this fly rod for backing into mountain streams and lakes. It is very light, only 7'6" and a four piece so the size is perfect. This rod is an absolute pleasure to fish with. The 4 wt. handles wind, delicate presentations when needed, and pairs perfectly with drys and nymphs. Weighted streamers and poppers are a bit difficult and probably better suited for another heavier weight rod. It can cast accurately out to 60' and further quite easily. Once the fish is on, this pole shines all over again. It has light tippet protection as well as enough backbone to handle larger fish. I caught an 18" rainbow and it was a real blast. The fly line ripping through the watering and the rod not being the least stressed. The whole experience was just pure fun. Of all my fly rods, I would say that this rod is probably the most fun rod I have. It is not an all purpose rod but it really shines with what it is meant to do. Have had other anglers envious of my setup when they see it cast.
