If you are just getting into Fly Fishing, then this is a good outfit for you. There is not thinking of line and reel as its all included. I would give this set-up and try, You can always upgrade later as I did.

Being fairly new to the art and sport of fly fishing, at one year in, I decided I wanted a four weight of decent quality and cost. After much research online, I sprang for this Orvis setup. Orvis has a good reputation for for quality products.
In building my equipment arsenal, I have five through eight weight rods and various types of reels to go along with those rods. A four weight was a no brainer for grab and go fishing in the area ponds of North Florida. I think I made a great choice! It casts well, even though my casting skills are in need of more practice. I have caught my first freshwater bass on this rod setup. Many more bream as well. I love the 8'6" length. It fits easily in the cab of my truck without having to dismantle.
So without question, if you are looking for a nice setup for a four weight rod and reel, this is a go! My first Orvis product and I am pleased.

For the money, it's hard to beat the value of the Orvis Clearwater Combo. Smooth, well balanced setup that both beginner and experienced anglers will appreciate. First purchase from ReelFlyRod. Fast shipping and the best website in the business. Very happy with my purchase.

Perfect for trout on smaller water. Use this paired with my 9’ 6wt Clearwater when fishing the hex hatch in northern mi.

I’ve been fly fishing for over 15 years (mainly saltwater flats and I have 2 Sage rods that I really love. However I recently had the opportunity to go to Colorado Springs and fish the nearby rivers, so I was in the market for a mid priced 4wt 8’6” setup ($600-800) when I came across the new 2019 Clearwater Series.
When I first picked up the rod and gave it a quick once over, I figured I was holding a rod in the $300-400.00 range and was surprised to see a price tag of only $198.00. I put it back on the rack and continued to look at other rods, knowing I didn’t want a beginner setup. Once I found a couple of rods I wanted to try out the salesperson asked if I wanted to tryout the Clearwater as well and he encouraged me to do so! Man was I truly surprised, I was confused as to how well it handled. While the other two rods had much nicer aesthetics (nicer cork and reel seats) the performance was not much different. Yes the Clearwater series is a little heavier in the hand, but when matched up with the new Clearwater Reel, it felt nicely balanced and fun to cast.
I left the fly fishing shop really confused, but also very impressed with what Orvis had accomplished with their newly redesigned Clearwater Rod and Reels. I still don’t know how they can offer the complete outfit for only $311.00!
A couple of weeks later I found myself purchasing a new Clearwater 864-4 Outfit from Reelflyrod.com because I couldn’t find one locally and I was about to go on my trip.
They were very helpful and also allowed me to upgrade the fly line to a SA Mastery Series MPX at just the difference of the cost of the Clearwater line (this is an upgrade that’s worth the cost).
Well I went on my trip to Colorado and I’m very pleased with my purchase. In the hands of a beginner it can be easier to cast than some rods but in the hands of an experienced person, it handles quite well! I let some of my friends try it out and they also were impressed, being that they teased me at first for buying a beginner setup.
I’m so happy I’m now looking at buying a new 8wt Rod as a backup or as a loner for friends to use when I take them out.
The new Clearwater Reel is all the freshwater reel that anyone would need, can’t believe the $89 price. However, I would not use them in saltwater, not made for that use but for everything else, your good to go.
