Great started rod/budget rod for beginners. Nice feel and spring for the price.

The 8wt rod is good for salmon fishing even for chinook, but the cork degraded soon and become very cheap look. Uncomfortable to rest thumb on.

I replaced my cheap big box store rod with this because the price point and the reviews were so good. I wish I'd started my journey at a legit fly shop like RFR from the beginning because a quality and consistent rod like this is much easier to learn casting.

Excellent casting rod. Throws and loads great in the wind when fishing on the coast.

Casted this new Clearwater rod in 8wt at Orvis Carmel store. The rod is faster and the accuracy is improved comparing to the old version. Yet it is an entry level Orvis rod and cannot match the performance with Recon or Helios 3. The new clearwater is also very easy to cast and backed with a great warranty. I think it is a good choice for the new casters.
