I wanted a powerful 8 WT for fishing largemouth bass in the weed-choked ponds in my area. I have cast it with the SA Bass Bug line and the Titan long, both lines are two line weights heavier, and this rod will handle the big poppers that I like to use. I hav also cast it in the ever present wind that we have and it handles wind well. This fly tod is the typical Orvis quality and the look, fit, and finish is in line with other mid to upper end fly rods.

Took me a while to write this review because I wanted to give this rod a fair shake against other higher end rods I have. I have multiple rods at the 1,000 dollar price point and while they are phenomenal in their own right I sometimes equate them to owning a Fabergé egg. I fish the surf the jettys and the rocks and I constantly try my level best to protect my rod when I take a fall. So this purchase was a "lower price point". I hope that doesn't read pretentious, rods are just crazy money these days. All of that aside this rod is worth every cent. It tracks exceptionally well and it has a great deal of lifting power. It isn't necessarily a cannon and shooting the entire fly line with the 8wt is sometimes a challenge, but if you settle in and relax you will be pleasantly surprised at 75 85 feet. I would recommend this rod all day long for someone looking to take the next step up or even a slight step down. You wont be disappointed.

This fly rod can throw and sort of flie or streamer with ease from 20 to 60ft, it does lose power around 80ft but it can do it, the only issue with the rod would be its swing weight its not the lightest rod in its class
