SAGE SPECTRUM C 9/10 FLY REEL
The new Sage Spectrum C Fly Reel is attractive, durable, and powerful. Spectrum C reels feature a proven, completely sealed, carbon fiber disc drag system that is smooth and powerful, with the ability to put the brakes on big species like bass, steelhead, bonefish, and salmon. These lightweight reels are beautifully designed, and offer anglers a tough, durable Sage reel at an entry level price.
Spectrum C reels use next generation, die-cast technology followed by CNC machining to reduce weight and create a unique, attractive frame and spool. These reels are then powder coated with an advanced polymer to create a 'tough as nails' finish that resists scratches, dents, and saltwater corrosion. An oversized, machined, and anodized one-revolution drag knob makes on the fly drag adjustments easy, and the fully machined, anodized, ergonomic reel handle improves grip and comfort.
These reels have a large arbor and concave spool which produces fast line pick up, while increasing strength and backing capacity. I purchased this product as a gift for my older brother's retirement. The SAGE name has always represented quality. I have owned a SAGE rod and reel myself now for more than 10 years and felt it would be a great choice for him too. The selection, ordering and delivery by REELFLYROD went off without a single hitch....everything was perfect. The rod will be used in a week from now in Michigan. We will be river fishing for some large coho and chinook. We love the 4 piece design as it makes it easy to pack. The added Rio Gold line and backing was also a bonus on this set up. The reel is beautiful and the larger spool and quick drag function will be so much easier to use than some of the small dial functions on other types. Looking forward to decades of fun!!!

I ordered this outfit primarily to fish the flats, but also to target other large species. Per a typo in the item description, I received my outfit with a line that I was not expecting. I emailed ReelFlyRod and they sent me the line I had expected promptly, at no additional cost. The line I was expecting loads the rod better and allows less false casting, however, I also fished the setup with the Rio Gold line which casts long and works at a variety of distances. The cork handle of the rod showed voids after the first time I used it (I did fish for quite a few hours), but I filled the voids and sealed the handle. I have not had this issue since sealing the handle. The reel has handled some big fish, one striper bringing me a couple yards into my backing. The rod fights fish well, and the 9/10 size reel is nice. I am happy with how the rod casts - it is not quite as fast as other Sage rods, but it is still quick enough to pick up 40yds of floating line with a water haul and cast in the wind. I wish the rod had alignment dots, and some may wish the rod had a hook keeper, albeit the reel seat has a couple small hook-point sized holes that hold flies well. Overall, a great value rod and reel for someone like myself, who avidly trout fishes year-round but targets larger fish under the right conditions. I would consider myself an advanced fly fisherman and this rod does not disappoint. I have cast other rods in the same price point, finding they do not dampen at the same reasonably-quick rate. With a good double haul you can cast a full fly line with this rod, and I would definitely recommend the outfit. I like the matte finish on the blank also - I think it was a first for Sage on this rod.

I used this rod on a trip with a friend. We shared a flats boat and shared rods. His rod was over twice the cost and we both agreed there was little if any performance difference casting. Drag was smooth and easy to adjust for for large, hard fighting saltwater fish. I really liked the multicolored line to help gauge distance.
