The Sage Spectrum Fly Reel is extremely durable and lightweight, with a super-smooth, powerful drag system. This lightweight drag is a proven design with a completely sealed, carbon fiber disc drag and will put the brakes on big species like bass, steelhead, bonefish, redfish, and salmon. These lightweight reels are beautifully designed, and offer anglers a beautiful and durable Sage reel at a great price.
Spectrum reels are fully CNC machined to exacting tolerances using aerospace grade 6061 T-6 aluminum, then cold forged and tempered for superior strength and rigidity. Finally, they are hard anodized for the perfect balance of hardness and color, and will withstand the harshest saltwater environments. An oversized, machined, and anodized one-revolution drag knob makes on the fly drag adjustments easy, and the fully machined, anodized, ergonomic reel handle improves grip and comfort.
These reels have a large arbor and concave spool which produces fast line pick up, while increasing strength and backing capacity. Spectrum reels easily convert from left to right hand retrieve and include a Sage embroidered ballistic nylon reel pouch for safe storage. This Spectrum 7/8 reel is a perfect choice for any 7wt or 8wt rod targeting largemouth bass, steelhead, big browns, bonefish, redfish, and general saltwater fishing. Drag is inconsistent , and not quite strong enough for the size. More suited to trout vs larger species

I have three of these. The first one I bought is fantastic. The other two do not have the same drag strength as the first one. I haven’t been lucky enough to hook a fish big enough to prove me wrong but with the drag maxed it feels more like my 5/6 trout reel. The first one has stopped a couple 40” stripers and all have spent more than a couple seasons in the salt and still work great.

I used this is the salt for a whole season and it’s holding up great. Sounds a little “trouty” when a fish runs but a solid reel.

Used reel few time since receiving and couldn't be happier.Sage lives up to there word with amazing drag system to the fighting strength against great lakes steelhead and salmon.Highly recommend at this price point.
