I'm a fan of the Smooth Infinity series of lines, and gave the 9wt salt version a 5-star review after a few sessions of practice casting in the back yard. However, I have to admit I've soured on this line quite a bit after putting it through its paces in the field. While it performed adequately under ideal conditions, it fell short figuratively and occasionally literally) when conditions were anything less. By day two of my trip, I had packed it away and subbed in my Rio Outbound short. Even though temps were higher than the acceptable range for the latter, it still proved the better performing line of the two.

The Smooth Infinity series has found its way onto a number of my rods since its introduction. So when a trip to Central America popped up on my docket it was the Smooth Infinity Salt was the obvious choice for my 9wt. It casts extremely well with my 9wt Redington Predator and is capable of handling everything from small crab and shrimp patterns to 6+" baitfish. I'm extremely pleased and looking forward to putting it to some serious use on my upcoming trip.

Put this on a new Scott Sector 9wt. Super impressed. This will be my only salt water line moving forward. Cast great in the wind which was what I was hoping for.

LOVE this fly line. Smooth and silky on the cast, almost instantaneous pickup for re-casting and a beautiful roll-over for impeccable fly presentation. I was surprised by how tolerant this line is to temperature - although it’s primarily a tropical saltwater line, it works really well in freshwater in cooler temperatures, without becoming too stiff. It also comes at 1/2 weight heavy, which matches wonderfully to rods with a bit of backbone, like the TFO Mangrove Coast series. Highly recommended!

SA's Infinity Smooth fly line is one of the best freshwater fly lines available. I used this line with great success out west for trout in both smaller streams and larger rivers using dries and nymphs. While designed for coldwater species, it also works well for warmwater species such as bass and panfish.
