This duffel is more of a soft suitcase than a duffel bag, albeit one with a lot of features. It lacks the convenience of a top open duffel (like the other GTS duffels, which I will review also), but is a seriously great bag if it fits your needs and traveling style. The backpack straps are strong, comfortable, and virtually disappear when not required, eliminating the need for roller wheels and a handle. The bag has four compression straps that help compress contents, and it holds as much or more than a comparably sized suitcase. The dedicated shoe storage works well and protects clothing. The external pocket fits my 10" tablet, a book, and other essentials nicely. Build quality, fit and finish as as all Simms gear, top notch. While not an inexpensive piece of luggage, for short trips where you don't want a traditional suitcase, or if like me you prefer to go light, this cannot be beat. If you are looking for a bag to toss in your rig to go to the river for a day, look at the standard duffels.
