I never imagined that I would need a cane, but I also knew it is inevitable that I will take a dive one day while wading. Surely enough, I slipped on algae 3 weeks ago, and I had to sit onto the creek bottom for the first time. The water was deep enough to submerge my wader opening, but I was on the way out for the day. I was lucky that I was close to shore with very slow water running rate. The phone was waterproof enough, and the wallet, knife, and car remote seem to have minimal or no water damage. Anywho, I got my Simms Pro Wading Staff from Reel Fly Rod shipped quickly to me after ordering. Last weekend, I took it to the same two state wildlife creeks that I was 3 weekends ago, and, wow, I can't believe how useful it is. I moved though water with speed and confidence, and now I know why those old (experienced) anglers carry them. Simms' wading staff is light and looks slick. It only folds down to 3 sections, but it still compact enough when folded and stowed in the included sheath. The folding locks are very easy to activate, and there are only two of them. The also included tether secures the staff, and I just leave it floating next to me without storing it away when fishing. I use the shortest setting due to my shorter stature, but I did use the full extension a few times to help me unhook my fly from trees and stream bottoms. The only complain I have is that the rubber tip has already been poked though by the inner tungsten tip in just two outings, so I'm not sure when I need to buy that $10 replacement tip.
