SMASH MOUSE FLY
From the mind and vise of Mick Trompen, this unique pattern represents an exausted mouse. On RIO's Smash Mouse, the body dangles in the water and the head is just keeping it up. As you pull it the body rises up and wiggles enticingly. As you slow or stop the body begins to dangle again. The mono weed guard helps keep weeds off the fly, but also help prevent the body from fouling on the hook while fishing.

I purchased a couple of these specifically for a Rainbow Trout and Grayling trip to Alaska in June and my only disappointment was that I did not fish it more. Both species were attracted to this bait and struck hard on it. The action on this fly is amazing both on a drift presentation as well as stripping it. The Smash Mouse Fly floats with the nose up and the tail never stops moving which is a very lifelike presentation. My guide had never seen the bait before, but they were definitely sold on it by the end of the trip. I'm headed to Maine in a couple of weeks and looking forward to trying it for Smallmouth Bass. One tip: if weeks or stickups are not a major concern, you may want to cut the weed guards to help with hook setting while not effecting the action of the fly.
