Classic Glass Looks with Modern Performance
Not many things stay as timeless as the fiberglass fly rod. While new graphite and resin technology comes around every few years, the technology of fiberglass has remained relatively steady for decades.
The newest iteration of the Redington Butter Stick really reaches back into the glory days of glass when it comes to aesthetics. While the Butter Stick II was praised for its retro looks - black, white, and orange, the Butter Stick III would stick right in with the more classic fiberglass fly rods. A translucent yellow that pops in direct sunlight.
Model Breakdown
Unlike the wide range of rods available in the previous generation, the 2022 Butter Stick will only be offered in three sizes: 7'0" 3wt, 7'6" 4wt, and an 8'0" 5wt. Redington chose to pull back on their offers of glass rods because they found that the Butter Stick has always been most popular and performed the best between 3-5wt sticks.

Model Review
3wt 7'0" - The smallest of the new series, the 3wt Butter Stick was the favorite among our staff and felt the most responsive among the models.
Best Application: Small trout waters and bluelines. Would make a sick panfish rod where you can feel the extreme bend from a voracious bluegill.
Line Recommendation: The rod felt best with a double taper line, but you can get away with a Rio Creek if you're looking for something a bit punchier and aren't chasing presentation shy trout but are instead after some bluegill or other sunfish.
4wt 7'6" - One of the most popular configurations of glass rods, the 4wt 7'6" Butter Stick will be at home in most smaller trout waters or pond hopping for panfish.
Best Application: All-around trout applications or sunfish.
Line Recommendation: RIO Lightline in WF or a DT line for that more classic approach.
5wt 8'0"- The top weight in the newest series of butter makes a great all-around freshwater rod. Feel every bend fighting bass and trout.
Best Application: General purpose freshwater, feel every moment of an amazing fight against Smallmouth Bass and Trout
Line Recommendation: RIO Lightline, RIO Gold, SA Trout
