The Mad River is in pretty good shape. The water is gin clear, around 64 degrees, and flow around 250 cfs. The early morning BWO and Trico bite has been OK, but the late afternoon hatch is the best for the coming week. Fish were actively rising for dry flies. Sitting and hiding in the shadows staying out of the sun. depths were anywhere from 2-4ft deep. Most productive fly patterns, Elk Hair caddis black/tan, black and brown ants, Yellow Humpy, soft hackles for droppers. Dry flies the smaller the better 18-16 are optimal 14 weren’t producing as well. The fall season will start cooling off and the afternoon bite will get better and better as time goes by.
