While we've had some cool weather blow through this week but it is expected that temperatures will be rising into the mid-80s this weekend which might put a hamper on some of our trout fishing. Water temperatures remain in the "trout safe" zone, hovering around 60 degrees, although midday may be stretching that just a bit.
Lack of rain over the last two weeks means the waters are especially clear and visibility is a maximum depth. Flow is normal between 125-150 CFS.
What's hitting?
Dry fly fishing is a little tough right now but you can have some success if you're being diligent about it.
Light Cahills, Tan/Cinnamon Caddis, Rusty Spinners have had the most success over the last two weeks. All size 16-22 found the most success.
Hang off a Beadhead Caddis or Egan's Frenchie to have the best chance of taking fish who are hanging deeper in the water column. Tie off between 18-24 inches from your lead dry fly.
For streamers stick with the standbys that everyone should have in the boxes, small Woolly Buggers or Rubber Legged Clousers in size 10-12. We'll be using olive or white while getting to those deep pools that are holding trout.
*Watch the eddies and slack water just off of the foam line. This is where trout are lying in wait for prey to get swept through the current.
You will have the best success if you're fishing from 2:30PM until dusk.
Have a great weekend and 'Tight Lines!' if you're out there hitting the local waters. Be sure to drop us a line if you're having success with a certain pattern or tactic. The shop will be closed this weekend as out Pro Staff goes out on a short fall trip.
